How to reduce embodied carbon

Embodied carbon can be reduced at all stages of a building’s life. Reduction could be prior to construction, while the building is being used or at the end of its life. For this reason, it is important to:

  • Use green transport methods to transport materials
  • Minimise waste within the construction process
  • Focus on reusing and recycling materials
  • Futureproof the building in the design process, allowing for different uses if required
  • Base construction off local raw materials
  • Use low emission, energy efficient processes.
