Land contamination

Before you submit your planning application

Before you submit your planning application, check whether you need to include additional information on land contamination. If you don’t submit the information you need:

  • The LPA may not validate your application
  • Planning consultees such as the Local Authority contaminated land officer (or equivalent) are more likely to object to your application
  • The LPA may refuse planning permission
  • The application process may be delayed whilst you obtain the necessary information.

Providing the right information the first time is likely to:

  • Reduce the chances of receiving objections to your application
  • Avoid delays to the LPA deciding your application
  • Reduce the quantity/ scope of recommended planning conditions relating to land contamination and give the LPA the opportunity to tailor any conditions appropriately.
