Building control application service

Get your local authority signed up to the Planning Portal’s building control service

In Spring this year, Planning Portal are launching our new building control application portal. 

We are committed to easing the process of making and submitting online applications for everyone across planning and building control, with consistent, innovative digital service delivery, building upon our proven success of transforming planning application submissions. We now facilitate over 90 percent of all planning applications nationally. 

Since the launch of our updated planning application and payment service in 2018, we have revolutionised planning by addressing what was formerly the main reason for invalidation – payments not accompanying applications. We brought a previously disparate payment process fully online, providing the ability for agents to nominate their clients to pay, facilitating submission to every local authority in the country via one unified payment system. 

With our new combined Building Control Portal, applicants will be able to 'link' planning and building control applications, enabling them to pull through details from their submitted planning applications to populate their building control applications. 

For the first time, planning and building control applications will be held in a single account, allowing users to quickly toggle between their planning and building control applications. 

The increased efficiency that this streamlined, integrated system will bring to the industry cannot be overstated; anybody who needs to make a building control application for a planning application they’ve made for the same site address will completely avoid duplication of work. 

As with planning, our building control application service is and will remain agile in response to the ever-changing industry landscape. The new portal will facilitate the submission of fully compliant applications along with payment, to meet the regulations which came into force in October 2023, and we are committed to consistently updating the system to keep it fully compliant, no matter how legislation changes.  

This combined application service has been requested by the industry for a long time and we are delighted to finally be able to bring it to you, thereby continuing to live up to our reputation as leaders of digital efficiency within the built environment.
