Where to get approval
Approved inspector building control services
Approved inspectors are companies or individuals authorised under the Building Act 1984 to carry out building control work in England and Wales.
The Secretary of State has designated CICAIR Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Construction Industry Council (CIC)) as the body responsible for deciding all applications for approved inspector status in England. You can find out more about CICAIR Limited's role (including how to apply to become an approved inspector) at the CIC website1.

Approved inspectors directoryThe Secretary of State has approved an addition to the currently approved insurance schemes, NHBC (National House-Building Council), who only insure their own approved inspectors, and Griffiths and Armour, for approved inspectors carrying out building control functions in England. MHCLG issued a Notice of Approval2 for the insurance scheme offered by Howden Insurance Brokers Limited on 28 February 2014.
This approval of the scheme takes effect from 1 March 2014 and continues in effect until withdrawn by the Secretary of State. The ministry has also published a divisional circular letter3 informing building control bodies of this Notice of Approval.
