What is the file size limit on supporting documents?

The size limit for each supporting document file is 10MB. If the file you wish to upload exceeds this limit, please refer to our guidance on reducing file sizes1

If your file(s) exceed this limit, please save them to removable media such as a CD and post to your local authority, clearly marking the items with the Planning Portal planning application reference number.

You should indicate that items have been submitted separately on the Supporting Documents screen.

Please do not submit .EXE files or use ZIP utilities to condense file sizes. These are not accepted either through the Planning Portal system or on removable storage devices as they may be rejected by anti-virus software.

For further guidance on uploading supporting documents you can also read our general guidance note ‘Making an application online via the Planning Portal2’.
