What is retrofitting?

Retrofit is the adaptation or improvement of existing buildings to improve their energy efficiency.

Retrofitting offers the greatest benefit for older homes, which are more likely to be affected by issues such as damp, draughts and a lack of insulation. The focus is on upgrading a building’s energy efficiency, which in turn helps to save costs for occupiers in the long run.

Retrofit should only be considered an option if the building is structurally sound with no major issues; any major issues may negate the benefits of retrofitting.
