Energy Company Obligation (ECO4)

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) supports those who are deemed to be in fuel poverty or vulnerable households by putting an obligation on medium and large energy suppliers to promote reduced energy usage. This can come in the form of new or upgraded heating systems or insulation.

To be eligible for the ECO4, the household will need to receive some type of benefits, a full list of included benefits is available on the Ofgem website.1

Some households may be eligible under the ECO4 Flex scheme, which allows local authorities to widen the eligibility criteria for the respective area. This gives authorities the power to refer households to energy companies if they believe they fit the local requirements.

Detailed guidance is available on the Ofgem website.2
