Green Deal

The Green Deal is a scheme which allows homeowners to make energy-saving changes to their homes using a government loan, paying the money back over a number of years with repayments being added to electricity bills. The bills relate to the house, not the individual, so if you move house, you no longer pay for the changes.

The applicant stands to benefit from this scheme namely because the annual repayments should not come to more than the amount saved on energy bills as a result of the improvements.

Changes may include insulation, heating, draft-proofing, double glazing, or renewable energy generation.

To be eligible for the Green Deal you must undergo a Green Deal assessment, which will help outline potential changes to your dwelling and the benefits these changes could bring. Improvements can only be made using the scheme if they are recommended within the assessment.

You can find more details on the government website1.
