We would always recommend that you apply online¹. But all the application forms are also available to download as PDF documents which you can print out, complete and submit by post.

The paper form chooser tool will ask you to select the relevant local planning authority or the location of your development. It can also provide assistance in selecting the correct type of form if required.

Application types not currently available from Planning Portal 

If you wish to apply for the following, please contact your local planning authority or check their website for details. 

• Planning permission for mineral extraction or associated development 
• Planning application for development relating to the onshore extraction of oil and gas 
• Modification or discharge of a Section 106 planning obligation 
• Prior approval applications for: Temporary recreational campsite (Part 4 - Class BA⁴); Development under local or private acts or orders (Part 11 – Class A⁵); Development ancillary to mining operations (Part 19 – Class B, C⁶); Coal mining development (Part 20, Class C, D⁷); Toll road facilities (Part 30 – Class A⁸) 
• Applications for Certificates of Appropriate Alternative Development  

Building control

We provide forms based on our standardised question set for building control applications.

These can be downloaded, printed and completed by hand. The forms can be accessed on the links below, and are available to any user who wishes to make a building control application to a local authority that is not currently enabled on our online building control service.
